The party doesn't stop at weddings. I'm DJ SKAN, and for over a decade I've brought real sound and honest, no-cheese energy to Ypsi's campus events, community nights and celebrations. Whatever the crowd, I read it and I run it.
A great DJ makes any room better — an EMU banquet, a Depot Town block celebration, a small-business grand opening. As an Ypsilanti event DJ and Master of Ceremony, I bring pro sound and clear announcements to a community hall the same way I would to a formal ballroom. In a town this diverse and creative, that means reading a genuinely mixed crowd and playing across genres without ever forcing it.
When you book me, you get me — not a name off a roster and a stranger who shows up on the day. I only take one event per date, so from our first planning call to the last song, your night has my full attention. Honest value, real energy, nothing phoned in.
Ypsilanti events live in character-rich spaces — the historic buildings and open air of Depot Town near Riverside Park, the Ypsilanti Freighthouse, the EMU Student Center and campus venues, and the rustic barns out in the township. These rooms have personality, not always built-in AV, so they need a DJ who brings a full PA that's ready indoors or out and knows how to make a warm, historic space sound great.
I scout every room ahead of time: power, load-in, whether we're fighting a high ceiling or an open patio, and how the night flows from arrival to program to dancing. Clear announcements matter as much as the music, so speeches land, honorees get their moment, and nobody misses a cue. Whatever your Ypsi venue — Cross Street, Michigan Ave, campus or barn — I've likely worked a room like it, and I'll confirm the details with your organizer before the day.
Every Ypsi crowd is different, so I read the room and adjust on the fly. Here's a taste of the events I love to bring to life.
Banquets, galas, grad nights and student mixers around EMU, run with clean sound and clear announcements.
Fundraisers, benefits and neighborhood celebrations in Depot Town and at the Freighthouse, with real, inclusive energy.
Grand openings, launches and studio nights that make Ypsi's makers and shops feel like a scene.
Milestones worth a full dance floor, run with genuine energy and no cheese.
Celebrate your crew with a night people actually talk about in January.
The throwbacks that bring every table and every era back together.
Warm, professional mic work so the guest of honor gets their moment.
You've got enough on your plate planning an Ypsilanti event, so I make the entertainment part easy. Every booking comes with a pro sound system sized to your space — indoor hall, campus ballroom or open-air Depot Town setup — that fills the room without blowing out the front table.
I bring the audio gear and wireless microphones for announcements, speeches and toasts, and I handle setup and breakdown myself — so you can work the room instead of the AV.
Ypsi crowds can spot a fake a mile off — so I win the night on real energy, honest value and a floor that fills itself.
No bait-and-switch. The DJ you plan with is the DJ running your event — one point of contact, start to finish.
I never double-book, so your night gets unhurried setup, backup gear on hand, and my full focus start to finish.
Clear announcements and smooth cues keep things on track — professional and warm, never cheesy.
Ypsi crowds cross every genre and generation, and I match the moment instead of forcing one playlist on everyone.

Yes. Ypsi is one of my core areas — I regularly DJ and MC campus and EMU events, community and nonprofit nights, small-business parties and private celebrations around Depot Town, the Freighthouse, Cross Street and Michigan Ave. There's no long-distance surcharge for events in the area.
Not at all. Ypsi is about 40 minutes from Detroit straight down I-94, and I cover the whole west side of Metro Detroit routinely. Your date is treated exactly like a Detroit or Oakland County booking, with no travel surcharge for the drive.
Yes. I bring a full, self-contained PA that's ready for historic rooms, campus halls and open-air setups, so venues without their own sound are no problem. I scout the space ahead of time for power and load-in and confirm everything with your organizer.
Every booking includes a professional sound system sized to your room, plus wireless microphones for speeches, awards and toasts. I handle setup and full breakdown myself and coordinate with the venue when needed.
Always. I'm an owner-operator, not an agency — the person you plan with is the person running your event. I only take one event per date, so it gets my full focus from setup to the last song.
EMU graduation and homecoming season, summer community festivals and holiday parties all book up fast, often months ahead. If your date matters, reach out early so I can hold it before it's gone.
